Plane Food

November 30th, 2007 · No Comments · 2007 Japan, Food and drink, travel

Here are the 2 meals I had on my flight to Japan.

Gnocchi with 3 sauces (which tasted all the same) , Udon with Noodle Sauce (like 2 strands), Some kind of ham with potato salad (what do you need when you have two carb dishes? add a carb salad) , fruit (always pink grapefruit in these), and bagged sealed roll (consistency of a superball).

Seafood Curry (with that nice stew/soup skin that forms), salad with a nub of baby corn (cherry tomatoes, I think ae a horrible idea for salads on a plane), “Japanese Delicacies” (this was actually good), Orange cheesecake (bleh) and a roll (they must have bushels of these rolls on the plane).

Neither of the above meals were particularly good, but when you are trapped on a plane for 11+ hours these will do the trick. That being said, the above was better than any other economy class food I have had on domestic flight. Chicken ala king and Dry turkey sandwiches don’t compare to the variety on each plate on this flight.

Besides, I like baby corn and the fact that they give you chopsticks and a knife (a knife! Take that TSA) with each meal. I still hate the fact that these meals are in those tiny little kitty sized dishes with those lids. (what the hell do you do with those lids?, they just clutter up your tray, fall between your legs and under your seat and onto the coat of the guy behind you staining it with raspberry Caesar dressing. Oh well, he won’t notice till well after we land.)

Oh yeah, and there was free beer and liquor.

So that was a nice distraction from my numb ass and looping showings of Hairspray and The Pelican Brief on the entertainment screen .
