It seems that a great number of the best movies of all time have simple two four-letter word titles. Star Wars, the recent Star Trek and BODY ROCK.
Released in 1984, seemingly in order to disprove George Orwell’s prediction of a dystopian rhythmless, parachute-pantless society, this movie lived up to its name and ROCKED. Starring Lorenzo Lamas in arguably his best role since whatever he did before then, this movie is a time capsule to breaking, bad rapping and lost art of airbrushing on sweats and denim. Unfortunately it was released on the same day as that juggernaut film Irreconcilable Differences starring Lil Drew Barrymore and was sadly overshadowed.
Just watch the opening credits after the jump and be awed.
and this. (not nearly the best scene, but best I could find on youtube. Other scenes were probably denied placement on youtube due to their awesomeness.)
For a frame of reference this was released the same year as Footloose, Amadeus and Purple Rain but none of those could match the musical and rhythmic power of this movie.
Yes, you can buy this on DVD. (and hopefully eventually BluRay.)
