Earlier in the day before Hokkaido Restaurant, we walked around a local shopping district with a long streets full of discount merchants that sold everything from food, kitchenware and clothing. We passed a small storefront that specialized in selling candies and sweets. Seeing a variety of really weird Kit Kats at this store I excitedly purchased a “grab bag” of candies and snacks for 1000 yen (about $12 at that very moment. The hawker at the stand put on a big show to all the passerbys yelling and announcing items as he placed them into what would ultimately be my $12 bag of snacks.
As long as he put some weird Kit Kat in there, i was happy.
But then I took it back to my hotel room and examined the contents…
What I got:
Lemon Vinegar Kit Kats (weird so that is good) Taste like Lemon Pledge Kit Kats.
A couple of packs of Choco Flakes – Honey Milk. Had NO choco in it and tasted like those milky crackers for babies.
3 Peanut chew bars- Horrible, horrible.
Something called French Milk chocolates that had most of the text printed backwards on it (see pic). WTF? Not all of the text was backwards so they did that on purpose. These were ok.
Two boxes of really weird Rasberry and Blueberry chocolates. (Gift basket candy fodder)
3 Praline toffee chocolate bars that had about a couple of weeks left before the expiration date. Meh.
2 things of some kind of French Fry like snacks. These were okay. Like eating big croutons but I couldn’t help but think that they looked like Fries that you find under your car seat when you clean it.
I love grab bags but this was a big disappointment. sigh.
