Bar Celta – Barcelona

May 3rd, 2010 · 2010 Barcelona, Food and drink, travel

On one of our marathon eating days in Barcelona during the early evening, we ended up at to have early dinner (or second lunch).  Guidebooks say they have excellent pulpo or octopus.  The sign said it was a “Pulperia” which I always assumed meant something like “Octopus Eating City”, but according to research can also mean small tavern or store in spanish.  Is this some kind of pun? Anyways, it is another tapas bar which our touristy guide books say serves up some of the best octopi in the city.

Clean up! Tourists are coming!

A short horrifying interlude.

April 29th, 2010 · Movies

One of the main differences between a human brain and machines like computers is that you can’t undo things like seeing and thinking. Well, maybe with a whole bunch of booze you can control-z your brain.  But sometimes even the most disturbing things linger in your mind and haunt you for the rest of your life.

I have recently seen one of those things.

Watch if you dare.  (you may want to watch without sound):

XXXocolat

April 27th, 2010 · 2010 Barcelona, Food and drink, travel

More Barcelona stuff in no particular order.

On the last full day in Barcelona we decided to make a chocolate excursion.  We had already seen the Museum of Chocolate but didn’t go further than the gift shop and peeking into the windows there to catch free glimpses of chocolate houses, statues and other things (but no oompa loompas).  We wanted to go to a genuine chocolate shop and have the full famous experience of a mug of liquid pudding with a honkingly large churro for dipping.

So we asked the one of the friendly apartment office staff for directions to her favorite chocolate shop. She described a place where they supposedly wore old time costumes and served great chocolate.  Visions of Willy Wonka danced through my skull.  Would there be a chocolate river? Would there be a garden full of candy? A crazy Spanish guy in a top hat?

Please, let it be this!

Music Video Break – ICP Miracles

April 9th, 2010 · music video

Insane Clown Posse (ICP if you are cool) came out with a new video : Miracles.

They came up with a song with lyrics that rival LFO’s “Summer Girls” and Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow” as some of the greatest lyrics ever.  They sing about  miracles of the earth which baffle them such as Giraffes and Magnets. Discovery Channel make this your theme song, stat!

Check it out.  ICP are deep MFers.

Oh and here is LFO. Just for comparison.

Absinthe

April 1st, 2010 · 2010 Barcelona, travel

I’ve always been intrigued by absinthe. Not sure when I first heard of it but I think I saw it in some old movie and was fascinated by the whole ritual of  drinking it and the fact that it drove people bat shit crazy.  It was just probably due to the fact that it was illegal in the US. So it must be good.

Reading the Barcelona guidebooks we learned of one of the oldest bars in the city Bar Marsella which was he former haunt of Hemingway, Picasso, Dali and probably Andy Dick at least one night.  Their specialty was apparently serving absinthe to tourists.

welcome
